Bio-Glyphic Ligature Portal

1-29-15. San Francisco, California. Spent the previous day refining a stencil that I'd made from poster paper. Used it as a template to make the 'glyph' shapes. Not entirely satisfied with the result on this one. Carefully tracing a complex stencil with many subtle curves proves to be a bit time-consuming for the window I have. Also, I placed the second iteration of the stencil in the wrong place, which forced me, as ever, to adapt. Worse, it was not, for some reason, in the next spot over but two down, so any possibility of an alternating pattern (on-off-on) was gone. At this point I would normally go for the 'double down' approach and just create uniformity to match the off-placed piece, but the (fairly arbitrary) 10 o'clock deadline was looming. So I settled for creating an oval, by mirroring the 'off piece' on the other side, but having only those two out of alignment with the circular ring. Anyhow, the effect is nice; the arches and curves lend a bone/muscle-y/bio-morphic critter/symbol style to it. A couple of ladies offered to help a bit which was fortuitous. They helped me finish the outlines and added some color.
